Why Joy?

Each New Year, our family takes the time to reflect on the previous year and choose a 'word' that will be their beacon for the coming year.  For 2020, I have chosen my word to be 'JOY'.

Have you heard the old adage, "Nothing is constant but change"?

That has rang true in my life in so many ways.  I know that everyone deals with change in their lives. Sometimes those changes are welcome, sometimes they are not.  There are changes in our lives which are sudden, such as an unexpected passing of a loved one or an unforseen illness.

I feel like I know a little bit about both of those.  I think that there are times in our lives when those changes hit us right up side the head and the last thing we are feeling is JOY.

I am a person who loves to do research.  One research study I read suggested that there are really only four foundation emotions, three of which are the “negative emotions” of fear, anger and sadness. The only “positive emotion” on the list is joy, or happiness.

Do you believe that?

I do believe that "men are that they might have joy." (2 Nephi 2:25) I just think that finding joy in your journey can be hard.  So this year... 2020... I am going to be intentional in finding joy in my life.
